The City's wastewater treatment plant <br /> serves the people within the corporate limits plus the residents <br /> of Raymus Village, an unincorporated neighborhood adjacent to the <br /> City, and the residents of the City of Lathrop. The population <br /> of Manteca is 40 ,914 (1990) . The population of Lathrop is 5 ,600 <br /> (1988) . <br /> The project area is in the San Joaquin Valley near the <br /> southern portion of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The major <br /> "waterways" in the area are man-made agricultural drains that <br /> empty into French Camp Slough approximately ten miles northwest <br /> of Manteca. The San Joaquin River flows: south about two miles <br /> west of Lathrop. <br /> Major botanical features of the service area include <br /> riparian shrubland and woodland along streams and drainage <br /> canals, agricultural fields around the urban zone, and urban <br /> landscaping. Riparian woodland supports a high diversity of <br /> wildlife. <br /> 1 <br />
