_ _ _ as-vs _ sz rr
LITHOLOGY
About 1 1/2' of rubble capped by degraded asphalt covered
the surface of the area. From ground level down: fine-
grained, brown-tan silt from -1 1/2' to -6 1/21 ; blue,
"gumbo" clay from -6 1/2' to -131 , very moist;
ate-131d at a
black clay, wet, in water table at --13' , p
maximum about one foot. The water table probably connects
directly with the nearby river channel and is believed to be
susceptible to tidal variations.
After sampling was completed, about 3 to 4 cu. yds. of silt,
located under the water pipeline, slumped suddenly into the
hole without any prior indication, showing an instability in
the soil and the need for refilling as soon as feasible.
The approximate slump area is shown on Figure 2, as are the
soils described.
TESTS RESULTS
Three tables are presented below, Table A shorts the results
of the soil sample tests; Table B, the water samples, and
Table C, the spoil pile samples.
All tests, at the detection limits, showed no detectable
contamination for either BTEX or TPH(D) .
TABLE A
TESTS ON SOILS FROM THE PIT SMALLS AND BOTTOM
Units: ug/kg = ppb; mg/kg = Ppm
ND = Not detectable at level shown
Sample Date: 5/B/91
Detect.
