(ENGEO). The Report was submitted in
response to our 30 October 2012 letter approving your work plan for further site
investigation at the Trails of Manteca site located at 2368 East Woodward Avenue in
Manteca (Site).
In 2005, diesel was detected in soil and groundwater samples obtained adjacent to an
above-ground storage tank (AST). In 2008, you excavated 315 tons of diesel-impacted
soil to a depth of eight feet; however, you did not sample groundwater to evaluate if
residual hydrocarbons remained.
In December 2012, ENGEO collected soil and groundwater samples from 10 borings
drilled to a depth of 25 feet below ground surface (bgs) and located in a grid pattern
around the former AST area. First groundwater was encountered during drilling from 15
to 17 feet bgs. Seventeen soil samples were collected at various depths (including the
center of the excavation footprint at 11, 16 and 25 feet bgs) from the 10 boring locations
and one groundwater sample was collected from each boring. ENGEO also sampled a
water supply well located 100 feet southeast of the former AST.
The laboratory reported no detections above reporting limits for soil and groundwater
samples, which were analyzed for analysis of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg), TPH as diesel (TPHd), TPH as motor oil (TPHmo), TPHd and TPHmo
with silica gel filtration preparation, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition,
selected shallow soil and groundwater samples were analyzed for polychlorinated
biphenyls (PCBs) to address potential impacts from hydraulic fluid.
Based on the current lack of petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater, groundwater
meets water quality objectives and Water Board staff will not be opening a cleanup case
related to the petroleum hydrocarbon release for this site.
{CARL E.
