Wilson Way
Stockton, CA 95205
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS-EHD) has recently reviewed the "Additional Site
Assessment Workplan" dated November 28 , 1994 as submitted by Sota
Environmental Technology Inc . , and has the following comments .
In section 4 . 1, monitoring well drilling techniques mention that
4-inch diameter casing is to be placed and that 8 1/2 inch hollow
stem augers (HSA) are to be used. In order to allow adequate
annular space for construction, PHS-EHD will require HSA that
allow at least an 8-inch inner diameter (811id) for 4-inch casings
on monitoring wells . An annular space of two inches all around
the casing is required during monitoring well construction to
prevent bridging during the filter pack placement . Monitoring
wells with proposed 2-inch casings may use 8 1/2 inch outer
diameter (8 1/2"od) HSA, or greater, that allow 6 "id.
PHS-EHD does not recommend the use of screened intervals of T
casing that exceed twenty (20) feet . Historical groundwater
depths since August 1991 indicate that the deepest depth to rgroundwater occurred in September 1992 (85 . 50 bgs) . The .
shallowest depth recorded was 73 . 661bgs during May 1993 . A
screened interval that encompasses this interval , plus a margin
for seasonal fluctuations, will be the proposal that will be
approved by PHS-EHD.
Initial monitoring well (MW' s 1, 2 , and 3 ) construction was
approved for 25' of screen since no current groundwater
information was available for the area at the time of well
placement . Recent well construction of MW' s 4 , 5 , and 6 have
limited screened casing intervals to 20 ' . Unless sufficient
cause for the proposed 35 ' length of screened interval can be
provided, the well casing screened interval shall be limited to
20 ' .
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
