Wails Environmental Management Inc U-HauIP709-50
002-70950 04 2"'Qtr 2003 Groundwater Monitoring Report
6127/03
. Wells at the site are now screened across three depth intervals These depth intervals include the "lower '
(C) well casings, screened at depths ranging from approximately 60 to 100 feet below ground surtace
(bgs), the "middle" (B) well casings, screened at depths ranging from approximately 45 to 77 feet bgs
and the "upper" (A) well casings, screened at depths ranging from approximately 23 to 62 feet bgs
These screened intervals accommodate fluctuations in groundwater depth that have ranged from
F approximately 45 to 90 feet bgs since 1993 (SOTA, 1997) Monitor well construction information is
summarized in Table 1
On April 8 - 10, 2002, Blaes Environmental installed three additional groundwater monitoring wells at
the site These wells included two remedial test wells (ASW-1 and VEW-1/2) and a groundwater
monitoring well (MW-10) (Figure 2) The well construction diagrams for these wells were presented in
the Blaes Environmental Second Quarter 2002 Groundwater Monitoring Program Report Blaes
Environmental installed an additional two groundwater monitor wells (MW-11 and MW-12) on March
1
17 and 18, 2003 These wells are located to the east and west of the site (Figure 2), and were installed at
the request of the SJCEHD to better evaluate the extent of hydrocarbon contamination Monitor wells
MW-11 and MW-12 each include two well casings screened according to the "B" and "C" horizons as
described in Section 2 3 of this report Well construction diagrams for these wells were presented in the
Blaes Environmental First Quarter 2003 Groundwater Monitoring Program Report Cross Sections
generated based on the drilling logs of select groundwater monitoring wells are presented in Figures 3
and 4
2 4 DOMESTIC WELL LOCATED AT FRONTIER MOTEL
During well installation activities on March 17 and 18, 2003, a SJCEHD representative discovered an
unregistered domestic well at the Frontier Motel located adjacent to the U-Haul property at 2639 North
Wilson Way The SJCEHD representative requested Blaes Environmental collect samples from the
motel's domestic well as part of the upcoming groundwater monitoring event The sample was collected
on March 26, 2003
Laboratory analytical results received on April 14, 2003 indicated concentrations of 1,2-Dichloroethane
(1,2 DCA) were detected at 1 3 parts per billion (ppb) in the sample collected from Frontier Motel's
4
•
