U-Haul#709-50
' Additional Site Charactenzation Blaes Environmental
4• RESULTS AND FINDINGS
' 41 H TE T F Y R N IN 1L
The characterization of hydrocarbons in soil involved incorporation of the following results of previous
' investigations, the stratigraphy of the site, recent observations taken during soil sampling, and laboratory
analytical results of recent soil sampling
4 1 1r sous,Re ultc
Results of the previous investigations conducted by ETS and Applied Consultants provided soil analytical
data to approximately 70 and 75 feet bgs (Appendix A) In general, results of these investigations
identified a release area near soil boring B7 The lateral extent of impacted soil was defined at soil
borings B5 (MW-5), B6 (MW-6), and BS With one central boring (B7) and limited data from the other
borings, the hydrocarbon plume remained undefined The recent soil sampling activities further defined
the extent of hydrocarbons in soil
4 12 Cross SeQ11=
Using the descriptions of soil from the six boreholes and other soil borings, Blaes Environmental
' developed two cross-section of the site (Figures 5 and 6) Both cross-sections indicate the soil beneath
the site is not layered into easily definable stratigraphic horizons Rather, soil types vary with depth and
locations Soil beneath the site consist of sandy silt, silt and sandy clay with interbedded silty sand and
' sand One visible trend with cross section A - A' indicates that soil on the eastern
portion of the site is
more clayey than the western portion of the site
4 13 Field Observations
' Observations made during drilling and soil sampling activities are described below The logs of soil
borings are included as Appendix B
+ Soil collected at approximately 29 to 30 feet bgs in borehole DP-2 appeared to be saturated with
free-phase hydrocarbons Soil at this depth consisted of silty sand Soil collected at the next
sampling interval at approximately 49 to 51 feet bgs did not show evidence of free-phase
hydrocarbons
• Soil samples collected from approximately PP y 65 to 110 feet bgs at borehole DP-2 consisted of silty
sand, and clayey sand at 110 feet bgs Soil samples collected within this depth interval did not
14
