x#70
' extraction well on the negative pressure (suction) side of the VE blower The velocicalc was used to
measure the flow rate from the extraction well during the test equipment operation
Each VE test lasted approximately three hours and was conducted in four separate vacuum/flow rate
tsteps The first step of each test began with the system manual air dilution valve fully open, creating a
slight vacuum on the respective extraction well The second and third steps of the VE test involved
' partially closing the test system manual dilution valve in order to create successively higher vacuum and
flow rates from each respective test well The fourth and final step of each test involved closing the
' manual dilution valve 100%, thus creating the highest possible vacuum and flow rate in the extraction
well
The induced vacuum response created during system operation was observed at various on-site
' monitoring points including nested monitor wells MW-IA and 1B, MW-3A and 3B,and MW-4A and 4B
(Figure 2) Magnehelic gauges were connected to these monitoring points to measure the lateral vacuum
' • response At periodic intervals during VE testing, the achieved vacuum and flow rates from the
respective extraction test wells, and the induced vacuum response at the lateral monitoring point wells,
' were recorded on individual field data sheets The VEW-1 and VEW-2 field data sheets have been
reproduced as Tables 6 and 7,respectively Relevant well construction details for the remedial test wells
' and lateral monitoring point wells are listed in Table 3
4 2 2 Vapor Sampling
During the fourth step of each VE test, following stabilization of the vacuum and flow rate, a vapor
sample was collected from the influent sampling port of the test trailer The influent sampling port is
located on the pressure side of the test system blower A total of two vapor samples (one per test) were
collected during the program Cine-liter capacity Tedlar bags were used as the air sample containers for
' each sample Upon collection, the vapor samples were placed in a cooler for protection from direct
sunlight Each vapor sample was delivered to Sequoia Analytical in Morgan Hill, California for
' laboratory analysis Each vapor sample was analyzed for volatile fuel hydrocarbons, VOCs (including
BTEX), and for fixed gases including methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen and nitrogen
12
I' 1
