Labels must face the room , i . e ., a label cannot face the <br /> wall or other visual obstruction . <br /> 6 . Ensure that the label is well taped from corner to corner and is not peeling off. if the label is not properly <br /> attached , remove the label and attach a new one, and fill out the information . <br /> 4 . 5 SHIPPING PAPERS <br /> A Hazardous Waste manifest must be filled out for each hazardous waste shipment . See the Filling Out a <br /> Hazardous Waste Manifest SOP . <br /> Shipping papers must be kept for 5 years . <br /> 4 . 6 ON -SITE TREATMENT <br /> Hazardous Waste cannot be treated on -site . This includes, for example , neutralizing an acid waste stream <br /> with a base for the purpose of rendering it neutral . <br /> 4 . 7 TRANSPORTATION <br /> For transportation purposes, it must be determined whether the waste is hazardous material under the <br /> United States Department of Transportation ( US DOT) . For US DOT hazardous materials, properly mark <br /> the packaging and placard the transportation vehicle . The applicable US DOY regulations are in Title 49 <br /> Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 171 through 180 . <br /> For transportation documentation purposes, a hazardous waste manifest must be prepared . <br /> Hazardous waste can only be transported by authorized carriers . <br /> 4 . 8 RECORD KEEPING <br /> The following records relating to the WAA must be kept : <br /> • Copies of all hazardous waste disposal requisitions <br /> • Copies of all hazardous waste logs <br /> • Copies of weekly WAA inspections <br /> • Spill logs <br /> The waste records must be kept for at least 3 years . The spill logs must be maintained until the WAA <br /> completes clean closure . <br /> Records should be kept with the laboratory records, and they should be organized such that regulatory <br /> personnel would have no trouble reviewing the records . <br /> 15 <br />
