13 August 1997
AGE-NC Project No 95-0130
' 3 2 LABORATORY RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in ground water samples collected from wells MW-2, MW-3, MW-5, VW-1 C,
' VW-2A and VW-3A The highest concentrations of TPH-g was reported from VW-1C at 260,000
ug/1 (nucrograms per liter or parts per billion ppb), while the lowest was reported from MW-2 at 110
ppb
' Benzene was detected in ground water samples collected from wells MW-1 through N1W-3, MW-5,
V W-1 C, VW-2A and VW-3A The highest concentrations of benzene was reported from VW-1 C at
' a concentration of 52,000 ppb, while the lowest was reported from MW-1 at 3 0 ppb Toluene,
ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in samples collected from wells 1VIW-1 through MW-3, MW-
5, VW-1C, VW-2A and VW-3A The highest concentrations were reported from VW-1C and VW-
3A at 48,000 ppb, while the lowest concentrations were reported from MW-2 at 1 7 ppb
MTBE was detected in a ground water samples collected from MW-2, MW-3, VW-1C, VW-2A and
' VW-3A The highest concentrations of MTBE was reported from VW-3A at a concentration of 4,600
ppb, while the lowest concentration reported from MW-2 at 0 88 ppb The analytical results for
ground water samples are summarized in Table 2 -Analytical Results of Quarterly Ground Water
Samples The laboratory report (Castle Analytical Laboratory Reference No 1145) and chain-of-
custody forms are included in Appendix B
I
4.0 CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
41 CONCLUSIONS
' • Between January 1995 and June 1997, the ground water flow direction and the hydraulic
gradient have remained relatively constant at the site
The ground water surface elevation at the site continues to remain above the slotted screened
' intervals in wells MW-1 through NM-5, and VW-1 C Therefore, samples collected from
these wells may not be representative of the conditions at the site
' • Based on the consistently high concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in MW-5 and the
prevailing ground water flow direction, it appears that hydrocarbon compounds detected in
MW-5 are related to the operation of former USTs at the Wells Fargo Bank property
' • Concentrations of benzene detected in samples collected from wells MW-1 through MW-3,
VW-1 C, VW-2A and VW-3A were above the State of California Maximum Contaminant
Levels (N4CLs) for drinking water of 1 0 ppb, toluene was above MCLS of 150 ppb in wells
VW-1 C, VW-2A and VW-3A, ethylbenzene was above MCLs of 700 ppb in wells VW-1C,
VW-2A and VW-3A, xylenes were above MCLs of 1,750 ppb in wells VW-1C, VW-2A and
Ad+anced GtoEmirommitni,Inc
