Advanced GeoEnvironmental
Top Filling Station
' January 30, 1995
Page 2
' CONEMENT
' Physicochemical conditions at this site remain inadequate to facilitate microbial growth and
bioremedial activity, especially with respect to oxidized and reduced forms of nitrogen We were
surprised however, to note that few viable cells were recovered from this soil sample While the
previous results of low cell recovery could be attributable to extended holding tunes, such
rationale cannot be utilized for this sampling event When results such as these are obtained, the
usual reason is related to environmental biotoxicity (heavy metals, high salts, excessive solvent
(gasoline and similar) levels, etc , Much would tend to m,mmize the growth of any indigenous
microorganisms We recommend therefore that, prior to any bioremedial implementation at this
site, efforts be undertaken to evaluate the localized environment for constituents (such as those
) noted above) which could act as biotoxins It is unlikely that the low levels of nutrients
encountered at this facility could, by themselves, account for the paucity of viable cell recovery
I
Should you have any questions concerning these results, please do not hesitate to contact me
I
I
AKK ch
I
