r• - 1 Applied Geotechnology Inc. 4.0 POTENTIAL CONTAMINATION SOURCES 4.1 On-Site If Kleinfelder (1987) interviewed Mr. Sandy Herzel, an employee of Donn Corpo- ration, regarding his knowledge of facility operations and procedures. Acoustical tile ceiling grids were manufactured at this site for about 10 years. Oil and grease were used to maintain equipment. A small solvent bath was operated for cleaning parts in the machine shop. This system was owned and serviced by Safety-Kleen Corporation. Safety-Kleen reports that 160 gallons of solvent (Stoddard solvent/mineral spirits) were delivered every six weeks for a period of at least 10 years. The used solvent would be removed by Safety-Kleen Corporation for recycling when new solvent was delivered. Site use before the Donn Corporation operation is relatively unknown. Roblin Hope's Industries, formerly Flangeklamp Corporation of California, operated the site between 1966 and 1980. Efforts to determine the product(s) produced during that period were unsuccessful. The land was used for agricultural purposes prior to 1963. There are no records available concerning pesticide and herbicide use on the site. 4.2 Off-Site Federal and state data bases were searched by zip code to identify sites within approximately a 1-mile radius from the subject site perimeter. The following paragraphs describe the data bases searched. 4.2.1 Data Bases !- CERCLIS: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund program Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Information System (CERCLIS) List-8 , Site Event Listing, was reviewed. CERCLIS sites located within a 1-mile radius of the site are reported in Table 1. The locations of the two CERCLIS sites listed are shown in Figure 2. The presence of these businesses on the CERCLIS List indicates the sites have been or are undergoing investigation or remediation. At this time, both sites are listed as requiring further action. RCRA: The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Notifiers List was ordered from EPA Region IX. This list was not received to date. This list will be reviewed and forwarded as an addendum at the earliest possible date. The presence of businesses on the RCRA Notifiers List indicates they use, generate, or transport materials classified as hazardous under RCRA. It is not a list of contaminated sites or activities resulting in releases of hazardous materials.
