r
Applied Geotechnology Inc.
I
On June 1 , 1990, groundwater samples were collected for analysis from
r monitor wells MW-3, PW-1, and PW-2. Monitor wells PW-3 and PW-4 were
installed approximately two weeks later and were subsequently sampled on
June 14, 1.990 (June 1990 sampling round) . Monitor wells MW-1, MW-2, and
MW-3 were sampled in December 1987.
The following information presents the analytical schedule and the data for
( the December 1987 and June 1990 samplings.
1
Temperature, pH, and specific conductance were measured in the :field during
well purging and after sampling each well. The stabilized values for each
parameter and well are presented in Table 4, Field Parameters. Groundwater
samples were analyzed by ATI for both the 1987 and 1990 rounds. In June
1990, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were analyzed using EPA Methods
8010 and 8020; compounds quantified by each method are reported in Tables 5
and 6 , respectively; and semivolatile organic compounds were analyzed by
EPA Method 8270. Compounds quantified by this method are presented in
Table 7. In December 1987, VOCs were analyzed using EPA Method 8020, but
were limited to benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylenes (BETX) .
Phenols were analyzed in 1987 using EPA Method 8040 (formerly 604) .
Analytes quantified by this method are presented in Table 8.
Groundwater samples for both rounds were analyzed for dissolved arsenic,
cadmium, chromium, copper, lead and zinc by EPA Methods 5010 and 7000
series. Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) concentrations were analyzed by
EPA Method 8015 modified.
5.3.2 Sediment
Four sediment samples were collected and analyzed for total metals and fuel
hydrocarbons using the EPA methods noted above. Sediment samples were
located from the two drainage ditches present on-site; sample locations are
noted on Figure 1. Sample S-1 is from the head of the property drainage
ditch; Sample S-2 is from the outfall of the same ditch. Samples S-3 and
S-4 were taken at the north and south ends of the main roadside ditch that
parallels the west side of Tillie Lewis Drive. Each sample was a composite
of several individual samples from the general area.
Each sample was collected with a stainless steel spoon after about 1 inch
of surface sediment was scrapped away. At least four individual samples
were composited in a clean stainless steel bowl before being placed in a
laboratory-cleaned glass jar. The jar was labeled and Chain-of-Custody
sealed as outlined in Appendix B.
. -17-
