 u
1.2.2 Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation
On April 16, 2001, Ramage Environmental published Preliminary Investigation and Evaluation
Report, which documented the results of soil and groundwater-grab sampling from three on-site
Geoprobeo soil borings (B-1, B-2 and B-3). The boring locations are shown on Figure 2.
Results of the investigation indicated that soil and groundwater beneath the site had been
impacted by gasoline hydrocarbons. The soil sample analytical results are summarized in Table
1, and the groundwater analytical results are included in Table 2.
1.2_3_ Monitoring Well Installations and Sensitive Receptor Survey
On September 27, 2002, Ramage Environmental published Monitoring Well Installation Report,
which documented the installation of three on-site groundwater monitoring wells and the survey of
potential sensitive receptors within 2,000-feet of the site.
In soil, only two samples contained detectable concentrations of gasoline hydrocarbons.
Laterally, the extent of impacted soil appeared to be limited to the vicinity of the former UST
system. Vertically, the extent of impacted soil appeared to be defined to a depth of approximately
20 feet below ground surface (bgs). The soil sample analytical results are included in Table 1.
In groundwater, only the sample collected from MW-1 contained detectable concentrations of
gasoline compounds. Given a groundwater flow direction toward the northeast, the lateral extent
of impacted groundwater appeared to be defined downgradient by MW-2 and MW-3. The
groundwater analytical results are summarized in Table 2, and the well construction details and
groundwater monitoring data are summarized in Table 3.
For the area within 2,000 feet of the site, seven water well completion reports were on file at the
California Department of Water Resources (DWR). None of these wells were found, during
reconnaissance. The entire site vicinity appeared to be connected to California Water Service,
and none of its water supply wells existed within the site vicinity. The site vicinity is almost entirely
commercial property, and city and county government buildings. No schools, hospitals, or other
potential sensitive receptors were observed in the site vicinity. The nearest school to the site
appeared to be the Trinity Lutheran School at 444 American Street, approximately 2,100 feet
., northeast of the site. The nearest surface water body to the site was McLeod Lake at Weber
Point, approximately 1,000 feet west of the site.
5
