Although groundwater results are reported at
low concentrations and non-detect for chemicals of concern during the first quarter 2007,
analytical results for groundwater samples collected at your site during an investigation in
May 2006 indicate that low concentrations for 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) were
reported in two groundwater samples collected from soil borings ASB2-W and ASB3=W.
These groundwater samples were collected near soil boring SB3 where 1,2-DCA was
detected at 31 micrograms per liter (µg/L) in groundwater samples collected in May
2003. Due to the presence of 1,2-DCA at concentrations above the California
Environmental Protection Agency water quality goals method detection limit (MDL) of
0.5 pg/L, the EHD believes additional investigation is needed to define the vertical extent
of 1,2-DCA contamination near soil boring SB3 as well as the lateral extent of the plume
east of soil boring SB3, near the fence, and southwest of soil boring ASB2. The EHD
recommends that cone penetration test (CPT) borings be advanced along the eastern and
southern sides of your property and one CPT boring be advanced in the area of borehole
SB3. These borings will provide continuous logs of computer-interpreted soil types and
identify locations for collecting depth-discreet grab groundwater samples. Please submit
a work plan to the EHD by June 13, 2008, to investigate the 1,2-DCA plume.
Please submit a sensitive receptor survey report to the EHD of domestic, municipal,
industrial and other wells within a 2,000-foot radius of this`site. Contact the Department
of Water Resources, municipal water suppliers, and nearby industries for well
information. Perform a physical search of the area to identify all wells. Show the
location of all wells on a map, relative to the location. of this site and submit any known
construction details of the wells to EHD by August 1; 2008.
i
