Weber Street, Third Floor
I Stockton, CA 95202
k
Subject: Workplan for Additional Subsurface Investigation at Jay's Mini Mart, 3302 North West
1 Lane, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
ATC Associates Inc. (ATC) has reviewed a letter issued to Mr. and Mrs. Mellrath on July 20, 2005, by the
1 San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD). The letter indicated that additional.
investigation to estimate the current mass of petroleum contamination remaining in the soil may be
necessary as a prelude to site closure.
€
In response to the EHD letter, ATC has prepared this workplan on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. McIlrath to
perforin additional subsurface investigation activities at the above referenced site. 'The activities proposed rat
the project site are described in detail in the tbllowing pa?-agraphs.
t
a
.SITE. LOCATION
The site is located on the east side of West Lane and the north-side of Alpine Avenue in Stockton, f
California, as shown on Figure 1. The location is a gas station and-mini ;part.
i
BACKGROUND +
I
In 1997, three underground storage tanks (USTs) and associated piping and fuel dispensers were removed
i from the locations shown on Figure 2. Soil samples were collected from the bottom of the tank excavation
pit at approximately 24 feet below ground-surface (bgs). Analytical testing indicated the collected samples
contained delectable :onceritrations of petroleum hydrocarbon cons ituents and fiiel oxygenates including;
methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE). The removed USI's were.replaced with new USTs in the same location and
the excavatuon was subsequently backfilled to the ground surface.
in August 2000, John P. Cummings & Associates (JPCA) advanced oae <;oil boring (SB 1) via direct push at
the north end of the former northern dispenser island. The soil boring reached a depth of 25 feet bgs before
probe refusal was encountered. In September 2000,_JPCA advanced a soil boring via auger at the same f
location as SB I to a depth of 53 .teet bgs. Analyses of soil samples and a groundwater sample from re-bored
SM indicated that the soil samples contained detectable concentrations of MTBE and t-butanol (TBA), and
the water sample contained detectable concentrations of MTBE, toluene, and total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline(TPHg).
S!2687.9hvorkp€anslwkpin2UU5.doc 1 J
I
