• INTRODUCTION
GHH Engineering, Inc (GHH)is currently providing professional engineering services to West
Lane Fuel (West Lane) to assist them with environmental issues pertaining to their site located at
3302 N West Lane, Stockton, California, as shown on Figures 1 and 2 Mr Jay McErath, of
West Lane, has authorized GHH to prepare this Additional Assessment Report(AAR) to present
the results of the drilling and sampling of three geoprobes (SB-2, SB-3, SB-4) conducted on May
22-23, 2003
This report is being submitted to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(County) and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Regional Board) to
document the work completed in accordance with the Additional Assessment Workplan
(Workplan)prepared by GHH, dated May 2002
BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Site Description and History
The site is currently a retail convenience store and gas station located on the northeast corner of
West Lane and Alpine Avenue in a commercial area of east Stockton The property is asphalt
paved and houses one rectangular-shaped store/office building and two active dispenser island
locations which are to the west of the store/office as shown on Figure 2 The site formerly
contained three underground storage tanks (UST) and three fuel dispenser islands The new UST
were installed in the same location the former UST were pulled from, in the northern portion of
the site
According to the USGS Stockton West Quadrangle map, the site is approximately 19-feet above
Mean Sea Level (MSL) The closest surface water body is the Calaveras River, located
approximately 3,500-feet north of the subject site
Summary of Previous Investigations
In 1997, three gasoline dispensing UST were removed Soil samples collected up to 24-feet bgs `
at the base of the former UST excavation reported lugh concentrations of total petroleum Gm
hydrocarbons, as gasoline (TPH G), as diesel (TPH D),benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total tit-I 1 `pPIL
xylenes, (BTEX) and fuel oxygenates One soil sample was reported to contain methyl tertiary
butyl ether (MTBE) at a concentration of 0 650 mg/kg Based on the soil data, the Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Board(Regional Board)required drilling of a single soil boring
and the collection of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analyses
On August 11, 2000, John P Cummings &Associates (JPCA) attempted to drill a soil boring
with a push ng,but encountered refusal at 25-feet bgs On September 7, 2000, JPCA completed
the soil boring (B-1) to 53-feet bgs using a rotary auger drill rig
