ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT REPORT
• JAY'S M 'ff MART
STOCKTON,CALIFORNIA
JUNE 2003
• Collect soil samples from each boring
• Analyze selected soil samples for TPH G, TPH D, Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene,
Xylenes (BTEX), the fuel oxygenates Methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether (MTBE), Di-asoproyl
ether(D1PE), Ethyl-tertiary-butyl-ether(ETBE), Tertiary-amyl-methyl-ether(TAMM),
Tertiary butanol (TBA) plus 1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and Ethyl dibromade (EDB)
• Collect groundwater samples from each geoprobe bonng
• Analyze all groundwater samples for TPH G, TPH D, BTEX, 1,2-DCA, EDB, and the
fuel oxygenates
• Document findings in an Additional Assessment Report for submittal to the County and
Regional Board
• Provide project management
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION
On May 22-23, 2003, three borings (SB-2 through SB-4) were completed on-site to determine if
there were soil and/or groundwater impacts near the former UST, dispensers, and fuel lanes Based
on conversations with the County, at was determined that if field evidence for groundwater
petroleum hydrocarbon impacts were found, the borings would be converted to monitoring wells
Field identification of impacted groundwater was not found during the drilling
Soil samples were taken every 5-feet an each boring until groundwater was encountered
Groundwater was encountered at approximately 54-feet bgs an each boring No field evidence of
hydrocarbon-impacted soil was encountered an any of the soil samples The boring locations are
shown on Figure 2, and copies of the boring logs are included an Appendix A The material
encountered during the drilling vaned between silt, salty sand, and fine-grained sand
Field indications of possible petroleum hydrocarbon impacts were determined using a portable
photo ionization detector (PID) to monitor for the presence of organic vapors in soil collected from
the boreholes This field screening method consisted of filling a plastic bag to approximately one-
third capacity with soil and sealing the bag After allowing sufficient time for the soil vapor to
equilibrate with the head space, the PID probe was inserted an the bag, and the concentrations of
orgaruc vapors detected by the PID were recorded on the boring log
Three soil samples from each boring were selected for lab analysis The soil sample dust above
groundwater along with those from approximately 30 and 40-feet bgs were the ones selected for
lab analysis
3
