California, a registered geologist <br /> from Gayland Environmental (Grayland) arrived at the West Lane Fuels property (site) located at <br /> 3300 West Lane in Stockton, California. on November 21, 1997, to assist with the removal of three <br /> underground storage tanks (Figure 1) Grayland collected individual soil samples for laboratory <br /> testing from beneath each of the former underground fuel storage tanks and from beneath fuel <br /> dispensers and underground piping Soil sample composites were collected from the soil stockpiles, <br /> iwhich were generated during the tank removal work <br /> Grayland returned to the site on November 26, 1997, to collect soil samples from the base and two <br /> sidewalls of an area within the tank excavation, which was overexcavated to a depth of <br /> approximately 24 feet below ground surface On December 2, 1997 Grayland returned to the site <br /> to collect four soil samples from beneath an abandoned underground product pipeline, which at one <br /> time supplied fuel to dispensers formerly situated along Alpine Avenue <br /> SITE DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND <br /> The site was occupied by the West Lane Fuels sales office and convenience store West Lane Fuels <br /> stored three grades of unleaded gasoline for retail sale in three underground storage tanks at the site <br /> The underground storage tanks were situated side by side near the northern boundary of the property <br /> (Figure 2) Two of the underground storage tanks had capacities of approximately 8,000 gallons, <br /> while the storage tank used to store regular unleaded gasoline had a capacity of approximately <br /> 10,000 gallons Fill ports were located at the southern ends of the underground storage tanks. fuel <br /> dispensers were located southwesterly of the three storage tanks along West Lane The single-wall, <br /> carbon steel underground storage tanks did not have overfill protection and were not wrapped The <br /> storage tanks apparently were installed during the early 1970's <br /> 2731 Quail Street Davis, California 95616 (916) 756-1441 <br /> 41 <br /> Gravland 022 160 irr <br /> March 20 1999 <br />
