INNOVATIONS IN THE SCRAP TIRE INDUSTRY
Processed Tires
Tires that have been processed can also
be stored on site. Tire bundles are laid
on their side and typically stacked on one
another. Large mounds of chunk tires, as
well as 2" TDF are separated from whole
tire piles. Each of these, as mentioned
earlier, reduces the volume of the tire
allowing for increased storage within
limited space.
SUMMARY
The people who work the scrap tire
industry are actively trying to develop
markets for discarded tires. Finding new
uses for old tires is the only way that
many of the scrap tire storage problems
will be addressed.
We cannot ignore the fact that each of us
has contributed to the scrap tire storage
problem. The tires we see in that
potential tire fire can quite possibly be our
own.
Your understanding of the impact tire
piles have on the environment will form
the foundation for an effective fire
prevention program and fire suppression
operation.
11
