Baker, County Administrator
From: Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
Subject: Tracy Tire Fire
This is to update you on the status of the tire fire at the Silas Royster property
in Tracy. The California Integrated Waste Management Board has informed us
that a contractor has been hired to extinguish the small areas of tires that are
still burning. The preparation of the site is expect to begin this week on
Thursday, November 30. The actual fire suppression activities are expected to
start next Tuesday, December 5. In October 2000 the Integrated Waste
Management Board approved $364,925 for this effort.
In early 2001, after the fire is extinguished, the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency will start work on site characterization to evaluate the residual
contamination on the property. After this analysis is complete, a remediation
plan will be developed.
Attached please find a copy of a fact sheet from the Waste Board with further
information. If you have any questions please call me at 468-3411 or Donna
Heran, Director of Environmental Health at 468-3429.
CC. Michael N.
