,.1 A1.0 DATA VALIDATION AND QUALITY CONTROL I LFR will incorporate procedures to ensure that the environmental data are defensible and of high quality. The tasks involve laboratory data reduction, laboratory data reporting, data validation, and a data usability assessment. Each task is described below. i ( A1.1 Data Reduction Data reduction applies to the procedure used by the laboratory in generating a summary of the analytical methods and in reporting results. The laboratory analyst generates the analytical data and has the prime responsibility for the correctness and completeness of the data. Laboratory data generated during sampling activities will be reduced following protocols specified in the EPA Method SW 846 (U.S. EPA 1995). This will be the first level of review. At a minimum, the following will be reviewed and ensured by laboratory personnel: • Sample extraction/digestion information is correct and complete. • Analysis information is correct and complete. • The appropriate standard operating procedures, laboratory Quality Assurance Plan (QAP), and methods have been followed. • Analytical results are correct and complete (including calculations). • Surrogate recoveries and internal standard areas are within established control limits. • Quality Control (QC) samples are within established control limits. • Blanks are within established control limits. • Documentation is complete for all sample results, QC samples, and instrument calibrations. All corrections on raw data and forms have been documented, initialed, and dated by the reviewer. The laboratory must maintain a program to certify that all data reduction software used for automatic sample calculations is accurate. The laboratory must verify its results and detection limits and the laboratory project manager or designated senior staff should sign the data report before it is released. t 3 A1.2 Data Reporting Requirements Analytical results for groundwater monitoring well sample data will be reported in the - laboratories' approved format, described below.
