U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)On-Scene Coordinator(OSC) Donn
Zuroski tasked the Ecology and Environment, Inc., Superfund Technical Assessment and Response
Team (START) to make a report of the local geology and hydrogeology in an effort to assess migration
of contamination at the above-referenced site. The tire fire has burned at the site since it began on
August 7, 1998. However, the strength of the blaze has steadily diminished, and the EPA is now
preparing for a subsurface investigation to determine the extent to which soil and water have been
affected by the fire.
ith providing the laboratory analytical results of two groundwater
The START has also been tasked w
events. On August 14, 1998, the groundwater of two industrial wells and one domestic well
sampling,
was sampled and analyzed for contaminants of concern to determine if groundwater being used had been
impacted. On March 12, 1999, the groundwater of the three wells was re-sampled. In addition, the
groundwater was sampled at a second residence where persons expressed concerns regarding their water
eology and hydrogeology and the groundwater analytical results are described below.
quality.
