Objectives
3.1 Data Use Objectives
The data collected during this site investigation will be used by the
OSC to assist with documentation of whether and to what extent
soils and waters have been affected by the tire fire. The OSC will
then use the data generated to guide future ERO activities at the
site.
3.2 Sampling Objectives
Sampling objectives are the following:
• Determine the existence, thickness and characteristics of the
underlying clay unit.
• Determine the presence of metals, VOC, and SVOC
contamination in both soils effected by the tire fire and tire fire
ash and residue. Sample locations have been chosen to both
spacial cover the pit and sample areas effected by the tire fire.
• Identify if a shallow aquifer, <30 feet below ground surface,
underlies the site, and determine if the groundwater is
contaminated with tire fire residual compounds.
3.3 Data Quality Objectives
3.3.1 Data Quality Objective (DQO) Process
DQOs for this project have been established by the ERO's OSC
based on the use of the data. A description of the DQO process is
described in EPA QA/R-5.
3.3.2 DQO Data Categories
This investigation will involve the generation of screening plus
10% definitive data, definitive data, and geological data. The
specific requirements for each data category are in Section 6.0.
09:C:\MyFiles\PROJECT\Tracy_Tire\QASP\QASP_0339.wpd-1 1/30/99 3-1
