Wilson Way, Stockton, California
K/J 910557.00
Dear Ms. Turkatte:
This letter is in response to your 6 October 1992 telephone conversation with Jeanne
Zolezzi regarding the background of the soils removed from the tank excavation. The site
was originally excavated in late 1978 by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. At that time, four
underground storage tanks were excavated and removed from the site. We understand
that the tank excavation was then backfilled and the site paved. We have no knowledge
of the final disposition of either the tanks or excavated soils.
The existing excavation and stockpile was created following Balbi & Chang Associates
(BCA) hydrocarbon evaluation study in April 1988. One of BCA's recommendations
following the study was to excavate and aerate the superficial soils (to a depth of
J-_ 3 feet) found to contain residual concentrations of hydrocarbons within the former tank
excavation. It is our understanding that the excavation and stockpile were created in
mid-1988 and have remained on the site since that time.
Please call me or Sachi Itagaki at 415/243-2150 if you have any questions.
Very truly yours,
KENNEDY/J_E/NKS CONSULTANTS
n
Gerry Nakano, P.E., R.E.A
Project Manager
GSN/mpt
svexcay.old
cc: Don Roek
Jeanne Zolezzi, Neumiller & Beardslee
Enclosure
