Box 2009 PtRPri ,,
Stockton, California 95201
Re: Existing Soil Stockpile and Excavation
102 South Wilson Way
Dear Ms. Ratliff:
This letter addresses the existing soil stockpile and excavation located at 102 South
Wilson Way in Stockton, California. Per your request, LEEDSH I LL-H ERKEN HOFF, INC,
(LH) collected representative soil samples from the existing stockpile at this site on
November 9, 1989 and analyzed the samples for petroleum hydrocarbon constituents
normally found in gasoline. The locations of the three, grab samples each collected from
a depth of 1.5 feet are shown in Figure 1. The samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) in accordance with modified EPA SW-846 methods 5030 and 8015,
and for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTX&E) by EPA SW-846 methods
5030 and 8020. The TPH levels of the three grab samples range from 3.8 ppm to less
than the minimum detectable limit of 1 ppm. The BTX&E levels range from a high of 0.075
ppm xylene in sample 3 to less than the minimum detectable limit of 0.003 ppm benzene
in sample 2. The analytical results for the stockpile grab samples are presented on Table
1. Copies of the laboratory certificates are also enclosed.
Eight barrels containing soil are also stored on site from previous soil borings by others.
Representative grab samples were collected by LH in December 1989 from these barrels
and analyzed. The TPH (as gasoline) concentrations of these soil samples range from
a high of 9 ppm to less than the minimum detectable limit of 1 ppm. The laboratory
results of these soil samples are enclosed and also presented in Table 1.
BACKGROUND
As reported in a City of Stockton Fire Prevention Bureau Tank Removal Permit, in
December 1978, two 7500 gallon gasoline tanks were removed from the site at 102 South
Wilson Way. This permit showed the south east corner of the former tank excavation to
be approximately 75 feet east of Wilson Way and 45 feet south of Market Street. After
removal of the tanks, the excavation was backfilled to grade and paved.
SAN FRANCISCO • SAN DIEGO • DENVER • ALBUQUEROUE • SANTA FE • PHOENIX
