Mr.Nuel Henderson,R.G January 31, 2003
Installation of Ozone Injection System and Remediation Status Report
. Page 3
Remediation Piping and System Installation
On December 3, 2002, Stratus oversaw JEM Industries excavate trenches to facilitate installation
of laterals and connection between injection points and the C-Sparge control panel. The lateral
piping consisted of 314-inch Sch. 40 PVC pipe with sweeps to each injection well. Each
injection point was connected to the C-Sparge" control panel using 318-inch ozone resistant
tubing (one continuous run) secondary contained in 314-inch Sch. 40 PVC laterals. The
construction specifications and design drawings for the installation of the ozone injection system
are presented in Appendix A
System Start-up
The C-SpargeT' system was started on December 26, 2002. The C-Sparge' control panel was
programmed and scheduled to inject ozone cyclically in each injection point for 14 minutes.
Based on this programming, each injection point will have ozone injection in 18 cycles for 4.2
hours every day. All of the injection points were pressure tested to check for ozone leaks prior to
system start-up.
Monitoring Plan
Groundwater analytical results for petroleum hydrocarbons from the historical quarterly
monitoring events (since June 2000) will serve as the pre-treatment baseline data. Additionally,
prior to system start up, groundwater samples were collected from select monitoring wells to
assist in establishing baseline data for evaluation and optimization of the operation of the ozone
injection system.
Stratus technicians will visit the site weekly to collect field data (pH, DO, and specific
conductivity) and to optimize the system performance. Groundwater samples from 10
monitoring wells will be collected and compared to the baseline groundwater conditions to
evaluate the performance of remediation. Table I presents the sampling frequency, field
parameters, and analytical parameters to be analyzed during the first quarter 2003 and subsequent
quarters. Field data sheets presenting field parameters, gathered pre- and post-system start-up,
are included in Appendix B, and certified analytical reports with chain-of-custody documentation
from pre-system start-up monitoring (baseline data) are included in Appendix C. Results of the
January 2003 sampling event, from which the analytical parameters will be obtained, are not
available at this time. This data will be presented in the next scheduled status report.
Based on the results and observations of the data collected during the operation in the first
quarter 2003, sampling frequency and/or analytical parameter analysis may be varied for the
subsequent quarters. The following parameters and concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons
will be used to evaluate the progress of remediation by ozone injection:
P:%Bp-Arco for UR5154691Reports\Arco 5469 Remediation Status Report-doe 5r9arU5
