26 September 1997 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 97-0330 <br /> Page 3 of 7 <br /> Figure 2 <br /> 33 SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> Discrete soil samples were collected from soil boring P-4 at 5-foot intervals, beginning at a depth of <br /> 15 feet bsg, utilizing a California split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves Soil samples were not <br /> collected from P-3, which was advanced to sample ground water near boring P-2 The sampler was <br /> driven by dropping a 140-pound weight from a height of 30 inches The number of blows required <br /> to advance each 6-inch length of the sampler (blow counts) was recorded on boring logs by an AGE <br /> staff geologist (Appendix A) <br /> Upon sample retrieval, the middle brass sleeve was removed from the sampler Both ends of the <br /> sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape Each sample was labeled with <br />' the following boring location, depth, time, date, and sampler's initials The samples were placed in <br /> a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical Incorporated <br /> (MAI), a California state-certified laboratory Selected soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPH-d), volatile aromatics (BTE&X) and poly-nuclear aromatics <br /> (PNAs) in accordance with EPA Methods 8015M, 8020 and 8270 respectively <br /> 34 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> Grab ground water samples were collected from soil borings P-3 and P-4 utilizing a hydro-punch <br /> technology A hydro-punch water assembly was advanced to a depth dust above the water table <br /> utilizing hollow steel rods, and driven past the lead auger bit into undisturbed materials approximately <br /> 5 feet below the water table The hollow steel rods were then retracted upward approximately five- <br /> feet, thereby exposing a stainless steel screen to the ground water A bailer with new nylon rope was <br /> manually inserted through the hollow steel rods and into the exposed screen and a grab water sample <br />' collected Sufficient sample was collected from each soil boring to fill three 40-m1 EPA-approved <br /> VOA vials containing 0 5 m1 18% hydrochloric acid as a preservative and a one-liter amber bottle <br /> Ground water sample containers were labeled with the well designation, date, time, and samplers <br /> initials <br /> Following collection and labeling of each grab ground water sample, the sample was immediately <br />' placed in a chilled container Each sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form and transported <br /> to MAI for analysis of TPH-d, BTE&X and PNAs in accordance with EPA Methods 5030/8015, 602 <br /> and 8270 respectively <br /> 4dvanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc <br /> I <br />
