31 January 2000
•. AGE-NC Project No. 99-0646
• Fuel oxygenates; di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tert-butyl ether(ETBE), MTBE,tert-amyl
methyl ether (TAME), and tert-butanol (TBA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260
modified.
4.0. FINDINGS
4.1. SOIL PROFILE
Gravel and organic clay were encountered in the sample collected from a depth of 5 feet bsg in
probing B 1. Silt was encountered in the remaining samples from all four borings to a depth of 20 feet
bsg. Silty sand was encountered in the 25 and 30-foot samples from each boring(see Boring Logs,
Appendix A).
Organic vapor was detected in four of the six soil samples collected from boring B 1 at concentrations
as high as 1,318 ppm (10 feet bsg). Organic vapor was not detected in samples collected from
borings B2, B3 or B4.
4.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SAMPLES
TPH-g was only detected in samples B1-10 and B1-15 at concentrations of 11,000 parts per million
(ppm, reported as mg/kg) and 760 ppm, respectively.
w Ethylbenzene was detected in samples B1-10 and B1-15 at concentrations of 8.9 ppm and 1.1 ppm,
respectively. Xylenes were detected in samples B1-10, B1-15 and B3-15 at concentrations of 1,500
ppm, 16 ppm and 0.019 ppm, respectively. Other petroleum hydrocarbon compounds were not
detected in soil samples collected at the site. Fuel oxygenates were not detected in the three soil
samples analyzed from the site.
Analytical results of soil samples are summarized on Table 1. The laboratory report(AAL Order No.
A99121704) and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix B.
5.0. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
.a
Based upon data collected from the site, AGE concludes the following:
- Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in probing B1 at depths of 10 and 15 feet bsg at
concentrations of 11,000 ppm and 760 ppm, respectively. Hydrocarbons were not detected
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
,r
