2662 N. Wilson Way,Stockton
Harry's Auto Mart,Page 2
The vertical extent of the contamination in groundwater has not been determined.
PHS/EHD recommends defining the vertical extent of the groundwater plume by using
technologies such as additional short-screen, deeper monitoring wells,or Cone Penetration
Testing with hydropunch.to collect the grab water sample in order to control cross-
contamination. Submit a work plan that will define the lateral and vertical extent of the
contamination in both soil and groundwater by September 20,2000. A 2000 feet well survey
in accordance with Appendix A of the Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations must be
performed. Submit the well survey results to PHS/EHD,including a map with the well
locations and any known well construction details, by September 30,2000.
In a letter dated April 5, 2000 PHS/EHD recommended obtaining permission from U Haul
to collect and analyze a groundwater sample from U Haul's MW-7 located on the street
immediately adjacent to the site. MW-7 was not sampled for the preparation of the report.
The report also stated that new properly screened monitoring wells have recently been
installed at U Haul but data of the analyses of the water samples of these wells have not
been released yet. The report recommended that well locations should not be proposed
until additional data from U Haul are reviewed.
According to Addkiwd Site ClaaracterizationReport dated March 21, 2000 prepared byBlaes
Environmental Management,Inc. for the U Haul site, analytical results of the groundwater
sample from NM-7 in February 2000 was 94 ppb of TPH g, non-detect at appropriate
detection limits for BTEX, and oxygenates. Analytical results of the groundwater sample
collected fromNM-7in September 1997 were 3,600 ppb TPH g, and 170 ppb, 8.4 ppb, 27
ppb,and 15 ppb of BTEX, respectively, and in October 1995 were 5,900 ppb of TPH g,420
ppb, 17 ppb,74 ppb, and 150 ppb of BTEX, respectively. The screen interval of MW-7 is
from 60 to 85 feet bsg, which is currently below first groundwater level.
PHS/EHD recommends including the latest analytical results of NM-7 in all future
quarterly monitoring reports. If MW-7 was not sampled by U Haul during the quarter,
PHS/EHD recommends contacting U-Haul for the permission to sample NM-7.
Please contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335 if you have any questions.
Donna Heran,RENS,Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey Wong , REHS Margareegorio,REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: RWQCB, Central Valley Region- Marty Hartzell
c: Ground Zero- Greg Stahl
