utility' s direction or by the utility, all to the satisfaction of <br /> the Engineer. <br /> Payment for protection of existing facilities shall be considered <br /> as included in the price paid for the various items of work and no <br /> additional compensation will be allowed therefor except as <br /> provided in the Standard Specifications. <br /> 6-15.02 Removal Methods Removal of existing improvements <br /> shall conform to Section 15-2 "Miscellaneous Highway Facilities" , <br /> these Special Provisions and as shown on the Plans. <br /> All portions of existing concrete to be removed shall be removed <br /> in a smooth, neat, vertical plane. Where expansion, contraction <br /> or construction joints are not present, the concrete shall be saw <br /> cut to a minimum depth of 1-1/2 inches. If an expansion, <br /> contraction or construction joint is within 3 feet of the concrete <br /> to be removed, the concrete shall be removed to that joint. <br /> Prior to final paving, all portions of existing pavement to be <br /> removed shall be cut on a neat, straight line. Pavement removed <br /> outside the removal line shall be cut parallel to and at right <br /> angles to the removal line. The face of the cut shall be smooth <br /> and shall not overhang the removal area. Drop hammers are not <br /> allowed. Jackhammers may be used if the cuts are overlapped and <br /> meet the above criteria. Where edges of remaining pavement are <br /> raised by the removal method used, they shall be flattened with a <br /> mechanical tamper prior to setting frames or replacing pavement. <br /> All removed material , unless otherwise specified, shall become the <br /> property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of outside of the <br /> right-of-way in accordance with the provisions in Section 7-1.13 <br /> "Disposal of Material Outside the Highway Right of Way" of the <br /> Standard Specifications. <br /> Payment for removal of existing improvements shall be in <br /> accordance with Section 15-2.07 "Payment" of the Standard <br /> Specifications. <br /> 6-19 FARTHWORK <br /> 6-19.02 Pipe and Tank Excavation and Backfill Excavation and <br /> backfill for pipe, tanks and miscellaneous structures shall <br /> conform to the provisions in Section 19.3 "Structure Excavation <br /> and Backfill" of the Standard Specifications and these Special <br /> Provisions. <br /> Pavement and concrete removal shall conform to Section 6.15-02 <br /> "Removal Methods" , of these Special Provisions. <br /> All excavation shall be made to the lines and grades shown on the <br /> plans. Where mud, peat or any unstable or objectionable material <br /> is encountered at or within 6 inches of the bottom of any <br /> excavation, such material shall be removed to a depth of at least <br /> 6.6 <br /> TANK6/TXTW.02M <br />
