The history of the
site, previous investigations, and proposed investigation are discussed in the following
sections.
II
2.0 BACKGROUND
Don's Buggie Shop is an automotive service facility speci4lizing in Volkswagen repair. It is
our.understanding that a 1,000-gallon underground storage tank (UST) containing regular
gasoline was removed from the site by AAA Tank l.eAval in February 1991. Two soil
samples were collected from beneath the tank, and two -samples were collected from the
product line trench. Total- petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline range (TPH-g) were
reported at concentrations of 2,200 and 6,600 mg/kg (ppm) in the tank samples, and
ethylene dibromide (EDB) was also detected at elevated levels. Volatile aromatic
hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene)were present in the tank samples
and in one of the product line samples. it
n
One liquid sample was also obtained from the sump loIcated south of the building. 'Phis
sample was analyzed for oil and grease (EPA method 5520), BTE&X (EPA method 602),
and chlorinated hydrocarbons (EPA method 601). Contariinants were detected in each of
these analyses, according to laboratory reports provided by San Joaquin County Puglic
Health Services - Environmental Health Division (PHS/E.HD).
I
In order to obtain financing for site improvements, the ow'i er of the property (Don Morris)
has requested further investigation of the reported contamination.
3.0 PROPOSED ASSESSMENT
Due to time constraints imposed b financial negotiations, . eoAudit recommends a limited
p Y
drilling program and rapid laboratory analysis to gather reliminary data on the vertical
Ge14.1 Audit S—i—,Ina 1
Doa'.Bugsie WP2-94M2.S
I
I
I
