I
NOTICE OF FIELD INVEST16,ATION
TO REMEDIATE SOIL CONTAIVIINATION
i;
DON'S BUGGIE SIIOA
3245 Wilson Way
Stockton,California
i
EXECUTIVE SUMMA,Y
U
Don's Buggie Shop, located at the intersection of Wilson Way, Alpine Avenue, and
Belvedere Avenue, is the site of a proposed investigation of petroleum-contaminated soil.
An underground storage tank for gasoline was removed frim the'property in February 1991,
and soil samples were collected after the tank was removed. Gasoline, benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylene were detected in these samples: at concentrations reaching 6,600
parts per million (ppm), 4.9 ppm, 98 ppm, 73 ppm, and 54ppm, respectively.Motor oil was
also present in an underground sump on the property.. e presence of these chemicals
indicated that an unauthorized release of hydrocarbons h&d occurred, and the San Joaquin
County Public Health Service (EnvironmentalHealth ! ivision) has requested further
investigation and clean-up at the site.
Geological Audit Services (GeoAudit) has been retained to excavate the contaminated soil,
if possible, and replace it with clean fill material. At the! present time, the volume of soil
that must be removed is unknown.; however, due to space limitations, it would not be
feasible to remove more than about 1,800 cubic yards. Thep resulting hole would measure 40
feet by 40 feet by 30 feet deep. The excavated soil will teN porariy be covered and stored
d
on plastic sheeting at the site until samples have been analyzed at a state-certified
laboratory. Laboratory results are expected within one week after sample collection. After
results have been received, the excavated soil will be transported to a. landfill -and the
excavation will be filled.
I
i
;i
;i
I
i
