Stainless steel cylindrical slee'es (2 inch diameter and 6 inch long)
will be driven into the soil with a drive sampler, The soil sampling cylinder will be
completely filled with soil so that no headspace s present in the ends of the sampling
tube. The ends of the sleeve will be covered wi h Teflon TI sheeting and polyethylene
caps and sealed with Scotch 33+T' electrical tape. The samples will then be labeled,
placed in self-sealing plastic bags, placed under is in a portable cooler and transported,
following standard chain of custody procedures, to a laboratory certified by the State of
California, Department of Health Services for analysis.
The samples will be analyzed for VOCs by means of EPA Method 8015/8020 modified
for gasoline, and for organic lead.
The boreholes and soil samples will be describ d by a Clayton geologist under the
supervision of a California registered geologist using the Unified Soil Classification
System (USCS). A photoionization detection ( ID) meter will be used to measure
breathing zone and borehole concentrations of potential VOCs during the drilling
activities.
After the removal of all drilling and sampling devices from a borehole, the borehole will
be backfilled to three feet below grade either with pure portland cement or with
rehydrated VolclayT"clay chips and then to gradewith concrete. The same abandonment
procedures will be followed for each borehole.
If you have any further questions, please contact me at (714) 229-4806.
Sincerely, Reviewed by:
( qDk
Marco Pecile David H.
