. 6 . 0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In general, the P&T system was minimally effective in groundwater
remediation and proved to be very cost-ineffective This system operated
as an interim system until the more effective AS/VE system became
operational Due to the significant bio-fouling during the operation, the
system became less effective with time and ASE does not recommend any
further operation of this system
The AS/VE system has been very effective in soil and groundwater
remediation at the site During the period of operation of this system, a
significant decrease in hydrocarbon concentrations was achieved, with
free-floating hydrocarbons being present at the site when the system
began operation to the present period where no BTEX or MTBE is present
at the site at concentrations exceeding WQOs However, given the
relatively low hydrocarbon concentrations remaining in groundwater at
the site, as well as no TPH-G detected in the influent air samples during
the last two months of operation, the system will no longer be efficient in
remediation at the site For this reason, ASE recommends that the
operation of this system be discontinued ASE recommends that quarterly
groundwater monitoring continue at the site to monitor the ongoing
natural attenuation processes
ASE also recommends that the operation continue on the domestic
wellhead treatment systems until such point that no MTBE as detected in
the influent water samples
Frank's One Stop Interim Effectiveness Report — November 2003
-7-
