f4
enhanced, and thus, could cause the extent of degredation seen in less
than 3 years
CONCLUSIONS
• Concentrations of hydrocarbons in the influent vapor stream continue to
climb, as does the volume of gasoline recovered from the subsurface
• A measurable thickness of free-floating hydrocarbons has been
discovered within monitoring well MW-6 and piezometer P-4 These
wells are positioned near the UST farm at the site These two wells have
contained free-product previously, initially discovered in June 2001
Several months of product bailing last summer removed the product
from these wells Product was re-discovered again earlier this month
• Based on the information reviewed by F&B, it appears that the product
identified in monitoring well MW-6 and piezometer P-4 may be the result
of a new release
RECOMMENDATIONS
ASE recommends the following modifications to the operation of the ASNE
system for the last quarter of 2002
• Continue operation of the ASNE remediation system through the next
quarter in a pulse-on, pulse-off manner After each 4 weeks of continued
operation, the system will be shut off for 2 weeks This will allow for (a)
the healing of preferential pathways likely generated from the rigorous air-
sparging and vapor-extracting operations, (b) free-product to accumulate
for bailer recovery, (c) ASE to determine if the free-product accumulates
and/or reduces at different rates during on or off periods of remedial
activities
• In an effort to concentrate the remedial efforts near the free-product, ASE
will shut-off one additional pair of remediation wells which will increase
the vacuum influence and injection rate in the remaining remediation
wells
• Measure and bail free-product on a weekly basis
a • Send a sample of the 2002 product to Zymax for a detailed gasoline range
hydrocarbon analysis to compare with the 2001 product sample
Frank's One Stop Remediation System Monthly Report — August & September 2002
-5-
