' FEELUENT AND INFLUENT SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSES
i
' During the first 14 days of operation, an effluent water sample was
collected and analyzed on a 24-hour turnaround basis to prove system
' operation compliance The City of Manteca Sewer Discharge Permit
requires no detectable concentration of any compounds tested in the
effluent water stream entering their sanitary sewer The first 8 samples
' were collected from the third carbon vessel in series, and each sample
was identified as EFF (for effluent) and the date of the sampling The
remainder of the samples were collected either from granulated activated
' carbon (GAC) vessel #1 or GAC #2 in an effort to determine the
breakthrough point In these cases, the samples were identified as GAC 1
' followed by the date or GAC 2 followed by the date When GAC 1 and GAC
2 were sampled, ASE also collected a sample from the next vessel in series
and placed it on HOLD at the laboratory, as a back-up in case the sample
being analyzed showed breakthrough All of these samples were analyzed
by EIFF Analytical of Davis, California (ELAP #2236) for a full scan EPA
Method 8260B which includes total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as
Igasoline, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (collectively known
as BTEX), and the seven fuel oxygenates, and for TPH as diesel by EPA
Method 8015 A breakthrough of tert-butanol (TBA) was identified in
• GAC vessel 1 on October 17, 2000 The HOLD sample from GAC 2 was
non-detect for all compounds At no time during this month's operation,
did the effluent entering the sewer line contain any detectable
concentrations of any of the compounds tested The effluent water
sample analytical reports and chain of custody records are attached in
Appendix B
On October 4, 2000, ASE collected an influent water sample (INF 10-4-00)
This sample was analyzed by KIFF Analytical of Davis, California (ELAP
#2236) for a full scan EPA Method 8260B and for TPH as diesel by EPA
Method 8015 The analytical results for this sample are tabulated in the
Tables Section of this report as Table One The influent water sample
analytical report and chain of custody record is attached in Appendix B
The influent TPH-G concentration was used to calculate the estimated
mass removed from the site during the month based on total gallons
treated The Monthly Performance Log, in the Tables Section of this
report, shows that based on the number of gallons extracted in the month
of October 2000, and assuming a constant TPH-G concentration of 24,000
fparts per billion in the influent water stream, the system extracted
approximately 7 55 gallons of gasoline from the groundwater beneath t h e
I site
Frank's One Stop Remediation System Monthly Report — October 2000
-3-
