i
3 . 0 GROUNDWATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
On August 11 and 12
g 1999, ASE associate geologist Zan Reed collected
groundwater samples from the site wells for analysis Monitoring well
IMW-5 was not sampled due to the free-floating hydrocarbons present in
that well Prior to sampling, the site monitoring wells were purged of four
well casing volumes of groundwater using any combination of Purger
pumps, Grundfos pumps and/or dedicated bailers The pH, temperature
and conductivity of the purge water were monitored during evacuation,
and samples were not collected until these parameters stabilized
Samples were collected from the wells using pre-cleaned dedicated
polyethylene bailees The groundwater samples for volatile compounds
I were decanted from the bailers into 40-m1 VOA vials, preserved with
hydrochloric acid and sealed without headspace The samples to b e
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-D) and semi-
volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) were contained in 1-liter amber glass
containers All of the samples were labeled and stored on ice f o r
transport to Chromalab, Inc of Pleasanton, California (ELAP #1094) under
appropriate chain-of-custody documentation Well sampling field logs are
presented in Appendix A The site drinking water well was sampled
through a sampling port and was not purged prior to sampling
Well sampling purge water was contained in 55-gallon steel drums and left
on-site for temporary storage This water was subsequently removed
I from the site on August 17, 1999 by Ecologix Environmental Services of
Chico, California which transported the water to an off-site facility for
irecycling
I4 . 0 GROUNDWATER SAMPLE ANALYSIS
The groundwater samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) by EPA Method 5030/8015M, TPH-D by
EPA Method 3510/8015, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and fuel
oxygenates by EPA Method 8260, and SVOCs by EPA Method 8270 The
samples for TPH-D were prepared for analysis at the laboratory using a
silica gel cleanup in an effort to remove non-hydrocarbon oil and grease
The analytical results for this sampling period are presented in Table Two
The certified analytical report and chain-of-custody documentation are
included as Appendix B
Frank's One Stop Quarterly Report - August 1998 Sampling
-3-
