N <br /> . 4 _� Soil ras Moisture Removal <br /> A 55-gallon steel drum equipped with a double bung ltd is used as a <br /> moisture knock-out dium This drum is located between the VE well <br /> manifold and the 1C engine The knock-out drum iemoves most of the <br /> liquid moisture entrained in the extracted Soil gas to prevent the <br /> enti wined liquid fiom entering the intake of the IC engine Large amounts <br /> of liquid water entering the intake of the IC engine could damage the <br /> engine <br /> 4_4 System _ Monitoring and Sam 11� ing <br /> The VE system is equipped with a 114-inch diameter brass sample pot t <br /> located dust after the VE well manifold (all wells combined) to monitor <br /> soil ,,as VOC levels and collect soil gas samples An organic vapor meter <br /> (OVM) is used to measure VOC levels in extracted soil gas on a weekly <br /> basis Influent soil gas samples are collected in TedlarO bags from t h e <br /> sample port on a monthly basis These samples are analyzed by a state <br /> certified analytical laboratory for total petroleum hydrocarbons as <br /> gasoline (TPH-G), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes <br /> • (collectively known as BTEX), 5 oxygenates and lead scavengers by EPA <br /> Method 8260 <br /> The soil gas flow and chemical analyses data will be used for the following <br /> purposes <br /> • Calculate the quantity of VOCs extracted by the VE/AS system <br /> • Detect possible asymptotic VOC concentiatrons that could possibly <br /> indicate the end point to the VE/AS project <br /> L5 Groundwater Air-Sparging System <br /> I <br /> ASE installed an in-situ AS system for remediation of dissolved and <br /> separate-phase petroleum groundwater contamination on the subject <br /> property The AS system injects clean compressed air below the impacted <br /> groundwater surface at approximately 17 to 19-feet bgs through seven ( 7 ) <br /> AS wells to strip petroleum contamination from the groundwater and soil <br /> The AS system also increases the dissolved oxygen levels in the <br /> groundwater which enhances natural biodegradation of hydrocarbons in <br /> the impacted groundwater and soil <br /> Frank's One Stop ASNE Remediation System Installation Report — February 2002 <br /> -5- <br />
