• 4.0 FINDINGS
4.1 Stratigraphy
In each boring (B-1 through B-10) backfill nnateiial was encountered from surface grade to
a depth of approximately 5 feet Fine-grained sands were encountered from depths of 5 to
10 feet Fine- to medium-grained, loose sands were encouiiteied from depths of 10 to 15
feet Wet, coarse-grained sands were encountered from depths of 15 to 20 feet Fine-
grained, clayey sands were encountered at depths of 20 feet B-1, B-2 and B-3 terminated
in medium-grained sands with clay at deptlis of approximately 25 feet Groundwater was
encountered in each boring at a approximately 15 feet Boling logs are included in Appendix
A
4.2 Field Screening of Soil Saurples and Auger Returns
In boring B-1, hydrocarbon odors were detected rn soil samples at 5, 10 and 15 feet
I-Iydiocaiborr odors were detected throughout borings B-2, B-3 and B-8 Li boring B-4, light
lrydrocarborr odors were noted only at a depth of 10 feet In boring B-5, hydrocarbon odors
were detected between depth of 5 and 10 feet Iii boring B-9, hydiocaibon odors were
detected at 10 feet No hydrocarbon odors were detected in boiings B-6, B-7 or B-10
4.3 Analytical Results of Soil Samples
A total of twenty-one soil samples were analyzed by WEST All samples were analyzed for
TPH as gasoline, TPH as diesel, TPH as motor oil and BTE&X TPH as gasoline was
detected at concentrations to 1,400 pprn (1W) TPH as diesel was detected at concentrations
to 18,000 ppm (IW) Benzene, toluene, etliylbenzene and xylene were detected at levels up
to 2 5 ppnr (138-15), 4 4 ppni (138-15), 2 4 ppm (138-15) and 8 3 ppm (IW), respectively No
TPH as motor oil was detected in any of the soil samples The analytical results of the soil
samples are summa>>zed in Table 1
TPH as gasoline and diesel were only detected in the sample from B-1, B-8 and the three
hand auger borings No BTE&X was detected in B-4, B-6, B-7 and B-10.
Ten soil samples (one from each boring) were analyzed for total lead. No lead was detected
in any of the soil samples The laboratory results and chaln-of-custody are included rn
Appendix B
4.4 Analytical Results of Groundwater Samples
TPH as gasoline was detected in groundwater samples froin B-2, B-4, B-5, B-8 and B-9 at
concentrations of 13,000µg/L (parts per billion, ppb), 2,200 ppb, 330 ppb, 3,400 ppb and 360
ppb, respectively TPH as diesel was detected only in B-2 at a concentration of 2,500 ppb,
TPH as motor oil was detected only rn B-4 at 110 ppb.
o.aeyc.i w.du s<rv.
