bottom of the augers was knocked out with a 140-Ib hammer dropped
through the augers
Drilling equipment was steam-cleaned prior to use, and sampling
equipment was washed with a TSP solution between sampling intervals to
prevent cross-contamination Rinsate was contained on-site in sealed a n d
labeled 55-gallon steel drums Drill cuttings were contained in steel bins
and are currently being profiled into Forward Landfill for disposal
7 . 0 SUBSURFACE LITHOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
Sediments encountered during drilling generally consisted of sand of
relatively high permeability from beneath the asphalt/concrete surface to
approximately 18-feet bgs, followed by low permeability clayey and silty
sediments from approximately 18-feet bgs to approximately 37-feet bgs
Below 37-feet bgs lies sediments with high permeability until a depth of at
least 50-feet bgs is reached Below 50-feet bgs, the sediment layers
become discontinuous with high, medium and low permeability layers at
various depths in different portions of the site until a depth of 120-feet
bgs in reached where a relatively continuous layer of low permeability
sediments is encountered At a depth of 130-feet bgs, a relatively
continuous layer of high permeability sand is encountered Two geologic
cross-sections have been prepared for this site The location of the
geologic cross-sections is shown on Figure 3, and the geologic cross-
sections are presented as Figures 4 and 5
Hydrocarbon odors were present in soil from monitoring wells MW-4,
MW-5 and MW-6 Groundwater was encountered between 11 5 and 14-
feet bgs The boring logs and well construction details are included as
Appendix C
8 . 0 ANALYTICAL RESULTS FOR SOIL
One soil sample collected from the capillary zone in borings MW-1
through MW-6 was analyzed by Chromalab, Inc for TPH-G by modified EPA
Method 503018015, TPH-D by EPA Method 3510/8015 and VOCs and fuel
oxygenates by EPA Method 8260 The analytical results are tabulated 1 n
Table Three A copy of the certified analytical reports and chain of
custody forms are included in Appendix D
No hydrocarbons were detected in the soil samples collected from borings
MW-1, MW-2, MW-3 and MW-6 The only hydrocarbons detected in the
soil sample collected from boring MW-4 was 2 6 ppm hydrocarbons in the
Franks One Stop Report - June 1999
-7-
