13 November 2018
AGE Project No. 18-4357
AdvancedGeo
Environmental
hand -augured to approximately five feet bsg to collect soil samples at five feet bsg
to define the vertical extent of impacted soil. Soil removed from S5 through S11
was placed back in the potholes pending results of laboratory analysis for potential
waste disposal.
AGE utilized a PID (Mini Rae 3000) to monitor soil from the walls and floor of both
excavations to determine the approximate horizontal and vertical limits of impacted soil
to be excavated. Soil excavation and sampling locations are depicted in Figures 2 and 3.
4.1. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
On 14 and 31 August 2018, a total of 29 soil samples were collected from the Main
Excavation Area, S6 Excavation Area, and S5 through S12. Five soil samples were
collected from the Main Excavation Area and S6 Excavation Area; two soil samples were
collected from S5 through S9, S11 and S12; one soil sample was collected from S10; and
four soil samples were collected from the stockpiled soil. On 01 November 2018, a total
of 4 soil samples were collected from S7, S8, S9, and S11; soil samples were collected
at 5 feet bsg.
Soil samples were collected by an AGE staff member by driving a metric soil sampling
slide hammer, loaded with a two-inch by six-inch steel sleeve, into the floor and sidewalls
of the excavations or into soil from the backhoe bucket. Soil samples were collected from
the stockpiles by digging approximately one foot into the stockpiles and hand packing a
two-inch by six-inch steel sleeve, and soil was collected from S12 by hand -packing a two-
inch by three-inch steel sleeve from the hand -auger cuttings. Additionally, soil was
collected from S7, S8, S9, and S11 on 01 November 2018 by hand -packing a two-inch
by three-inch steel sleeve from the hand -auger cuttings. Upon collection of each sample,
the ends were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Sample sleeves
were labeled with sample location, designation, time, date, and sampler's initials and then
placed in a chilled container with ice.
Soil sample duplicates for most of the samples were extruded into plastic bags and field -
screened for the presence of organic vapors using a PID.
Soil samples were collected by an AGE representative at locations and depths to allow
for proper evaluation of the extent and limits of contamination at the site. The following is
a list of the samples collected with designation, sample location, depth, and PID readings:
SAMPLE ID LOCATION DEPTH PID
(ft bsg) (PPmv)
SW -S Southern sidewall of the Main Excavation 4 0
SW -N Northern sidewall of the Main Excavation 4 0
