Laboratory Procedures
Selected soil and groundwater samples collected ftorn the soil boreholes (Geoprobe® and
HSA) will be analyzed for the presence of total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as
gasoline, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylt nes, and methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MtBE) using modified EPA Methods 8015 and $ 20, with MtBE confirmation calculated
using EPA Method 8260.
Physical Soil Data
I
Selected soil samples collected from the soil borings will be analyzed for determination of
porosity, fluid saturation(moisture content), bulk density, and grain density. Grain and pore
volumes will be determined using Boyle's Law double-cell methods with helium as the
gaseous medium. Porosity's and densities will be calculated as described in API RP-40, API
Recommended Practice for Core-Analysis Procedure, 1960. Fluid saturation will be
determined as described in API RP-40 and mois a content by ASTM D-2216.
i
r
Soil Cuttings and Purge Water
Soil cuttings generated during HSA drilling opera ions will be temporarily stored on site and
covered with plastic sheeting pending characterization and disposal. Soil cuttings will be
removed by Tosco's disposal contractor to an appropriate disposal facility. Water generated
during steam cleaning, and development and sam ling of the new wells will be temporarily
stored in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums pending transport by Tosco's disposal contractor to
an appropriate disposal or treatment facility. So.1 cuttings and purge water drums will be
temporarily stored on site for approximately 4 to 6 weeks. ;
I
1
1
911-007.1BIWRKPLN B -3
