0 <br /> Community Health and Safety Plan <br /> ' RAINWATER CAR WASH,Manteca, California 95336 Page I1 <br /> May 30,2012 <br /> ' explosive or flammable environment,and only non-sparking,explosion-proof equipment will be used. In addition, <br /> safe practices will be followed when performing any task that might result in the agitation or release of chemicals. <br /> Open flame or tobacco smoking will be strictly prohibited at the sites.All flammable liquids will be stored in <br /> approved containers and the quantities will be limited to one-day use. <br /> If the four-gas instrument exceeds 10%of the LEL,all site activities will cease, equipment will be shut down,and <br /> site personnel will be evacuated. In the event of a fire,work will cease,the area will be evacuated,and the local <br /> ' fire response team will be notified immediately.Only trained,experienced firefighters will be allowed to <br /> extinguish substantial fires at the sites. Site personnel will not attempt to fight fires,unless properly trained and <br /> equipped to do so.At least one fully charged ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher will be readily available for use <br /> ' during all scheduled activities at the sites. <br /> 5.5.5 Slips, Trips, and Falls <br /> ' These types of hazard result from unlevel or slippery surfaces,high-risk positioning, and the presence of hard-to- <br /> see objects(e.g., rope,cords,cables,aboveground piping,hills etc.)in areas where workers walk. Appropriate <br /> warning signs will be posted wherever this danger has been identified. Workers will take extra caution while <br /> working on steep slopes and in high-risk positions. <br /> 5.5.6 Illumination <br /> If work activities occur before sunrise or after sunset,adequate lighting will be provided in each work area to <br /> meet the requirements of Title 8 CCR section 5192(m). <br /> ' 5.5.7 Cold Stress <br /> Workers performing activities during winter and spring months may encounter conditions such as extremely cold <br /> ' temperatures, snow and ice,which can make field activities difficult.Adequate cold weather gear,especially head <br /> and footwear,will be required under these conditions. Workers should be aware of signs and symptoms of <br /> hypothermia and frostbite,as well as first aid for these conditions. These signs and symptoms are summarized in <br /> ' the table below. <br /> Condition Signs Symptoms Response <br /> Hypothermia Confusion, slurred Sleepiness, confusion, Remove subject to warm area, such as <br /> speech, slow warm feeling truck cab; give warm fluids; warm body <br /> movement core as rapidly as possible; remove <br /> outer clothing and wrap torso in <br /> ' blankets with hot water bottle or other <br /> heat source. Get medical attention <br /> immediately. <br /> ' Frostbite Reddish area on skin, Numbness or lack of Place affected extremity in warm, not <br /> frozen skin feeling on exposed hot,water or wrap in warm towels. Get <br /> skin medical attention. <br /> ' 5.5.8 Heat Stress <br /> Heat stress and associated complications can be the most prevalent health hazard at many sites,especially when <br /> ' PPE is used. Workers in PPE may experience varying degrees of heat stress if precautions are not taken. It is <br /> important to remember that individuals react to heat in different ways. Workers should be aware of signs and <br /> symptoms of heat-related illnesses,as well as first aid for these conditions.These signs and symptoms are <br /> ' summarized in the table. <br /> /►1 Ami Adini <br /> ��ii&Associates 0�c. <br />
