Ms. Karen McLaughlin
City of Manteca 10 September 2015 Former Police Firing Range Page 2 of 2
side berms, and deeper soil samples will be collected from three borings advanced on the range
floor to assess the vertical extent of impacted soil; groundwater samples will also be collected from
the borings to assess the impact on groundwater. The penetration depth of impacted soil in the
berm will be assessed by trenching with a backhoe; the XRF and metal detection equipment will be
utilized while trenching into the berm to assess the presence of lead shot to help determine the
depth of impacts in the berm. Soil samples will be collected in stainless steel tubes sealed with
Teflon tape and plastic end caps; groundwater samples will be collected in laboratory-supplied
containers. Sampling equipment will be decontaminated prior to collecting each sample and the
samples will be kept under, and transferred to, the analytical laboratory under chain-of-custody. In
addition an equipment rinse blank and a duplicate soil sample for total lead analysis will be
collected.
Soil samples will be sieved utilizing #4 and #10 sieves and the two finer size fractions submitted for
individual laboratory analysis. The samples will be digested following methods EPA 3010A (for
groundwater) and EPA 3050B (for soil) for analysis for the CAM metals by EPA 60108, except for
mercury, for which the samples will be digested following the methods EPA 7470A (water) and EPA
7471A (soil). Geocon will submit up to 45 samples for analysis for total lead by EPA Method 601 OB,
five samples for analysis for the CAM 17 metals by EPA Method 6010/7471A, any samples with
total metal concentrations exceeding 10 times its respective STLC for WET soluble metal by EPA
Method 7420, and any soil samples with a WET soluble metal concentration exceeding its STCL
and total metal concentration exceeding 20 times its respective TCLP for TCLP soluble metal by
EPA Method 1311.
If you have questions or comments regarding this letter, please contact Nuel Henderson at (209)
468-3436 or by email at nhenderson(cDsicehd com.
Sincerely,
Nuel C.
