A continuous boring log will be generated utilizing the
Hogentogler Co. CPT computer program. The Hogentogler Co. computer program will
utilize the CPT Soil Behavior Classification System (Robertson, P.K., Campanella, R.G,
Gillespie, D. and Greig, J., 1986), to generate a general lithology type and display on a
CPT boring log. Rinseate generated during drilling activities will be containerized in
properly labeled Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums, and
stored on-site in an area lacking public access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated
at a later date based on laboratory results of the rinseate.
3.2. CPT GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
Multiple 13/4-inch diameter soil borings will be located adjacent to each CPT boring
(P-11, P-12, P-13, P-14) to acquire independent grab groundwater samples in each
targeted zone. Based on CPT findings, discrete grab groundwater samples will be
collected in significant intervals of porous and permeable strata. The depth of sampling
will likely adhere to the previous depths, as depicted in Table 1. A Hydro-Punch sample
tool will be pushed into the specified zone, then withdrawn approximately three feet to
expose an inlet screen. The interior of the sampling tool fills with water and a 1-inch
outer diameter stainless steel bailer will be lowered and utilized to extract a groundwater
sample. Following sample collection, the samples will be transferred to laboratory-
supplied containers, properly labeled and placed in a chilled container to be transported
under chain of custody to a DPH-certified laboratory for analysis.
All rinseate generated during drilling activities will be containerized in properly labeled
DOT-approved 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area lacking public access.
3.3. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water
after being washed with a solution of Alconox. All down-hole drilling and sampling
equipment will be pressure washed prior to starting each boring.
3.4. BORING DESTRUCTION
All soil borings will be permanently sealed to prevent vertical migration of potential
contaminants. At the completion of CPT and/or groundwater sampling activities, all soil
borings will be backfilled by inserting hollow steel rods to the total depth of each boring,
and backfilling with a portland cement grout mix; the EHD will be notified at least 48
hours in advance of field work and be given the opportunity to inspect the grout mix
prior to backfilling activities.
Advanced GeoCnvironmental,Inc.
