contamination. One sample from the vadose zone and one at the capillary fringe at a minimum.
Each of the samples will be collected with a clean stainless steel driven core sampler. A new,
clean 2 inch x 6 inch brass sample tube will be used to contain the sample collected. Upon
completing the collection of the undisturbed sample, the brass tube containing the soil sample
will be sealed with Teflon tape, clean plastic end caps duct taped, labeled and placed in a chilled
ice chest To ensure sample integrity all the auguring equipment and the drive sampler will be
decontaminated with a steam cleaner between each s ple point. A sample Chain-of-Custody
(COC) will be initiated and all samples will be labelec and entered into the_ COC) at the time of
collection. The samples will be placed into a ice chest with 'ce and=blue to maintain a level
of 4 degrees celsius while in transit to the labor itory. Samples submitted to Sherwood
Analytical Laboratory in Hilmar, California; DHS C rtification #1400 will be requested to be
analyzed for TPH- Gasoline, (EPA Method 8015 Mod, B.T.X.E.- Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl
Benzene, Total Xylene (EPA Method 8020) and Oxygenates MTBE., TAME, DIPE, ETBE,
TBA, (EPA Method 8260)
2.2.2 HYDROPUNCH SAMPLER
After completion of the soil boring to a depth suffici nt for the vadose sampling requirements_
The hydropunch sampler will be installed into the hollow stem augur. The unit will be advanced
with the use of the drilling rig slide hammer approximately five feet into an undisturbed
formation. At this point the hydropunch will be extracted approximately two feet to open the
sampling chamber and the unit will be allowed to fill for at least fifteen minutes.
Next, the hydropunch will be accessed through the top with a clean teflon or stainless steel bailer
to extract a representative water sample from this sam le point.
Prior to sampling, a bailer blank sample will be co ected by pouring distilled water into the
bailer and collecting one VOA for Quality Control measures. Then four VOA's will be collected
from the well with this same bailer by lowering the bailer slowly into the hydropunch. Upon
retrieving the bailer, the sample of water will be decar ted into the new clean containers smoothly
and with particular attention as to not agitate or oxygenate the sample in any manner during
transfer. The VOA's will contain Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) an approved preservative. All
samples will be labeled and entered into a sam le Chain-of-Custody immediately upon
collection. The samples will be placed into an ice chc st with ice and blue ice to maintain a level
of 4 degrees Celsius while in transit to the laboratory. Samples submitted to the laboratory under
the (C.O.C.) will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbon products (in the gasoline range)
TPH- Gasoline, (EPA Method 5030 Mod., BTXE- Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene, Total
Xylene (EPA Method 602, TTLC Lead (EPA Meth d 7420 and Oxygenates MTBE, TAME,
DIPE, ET-BE, TBA, (EPA Method 8260) The dew tion limits are reported in the previous
summary table.
TED PETERS TRUCKING/MAP rMCA WORKPLAN
4
