Information supplied to Applied GeoSystams
indicates that the 1,000-gallon underground storage tanks were
used to store regular-leaded, regular.-unleaded, super-unleaded
gasoline and diesel oil. A 550-gallon tank used to store waste
oil was located to the north of and adjacent to the station
building. The tanks were removed. in February, 1988.
1988 b
Samples of native soil were collected on February 11, y
Canonie Environmental Services Corporation from locations below
the former tanks. Results of lab analyses on these soil samples
indicate that there is hydrocarbon-product contamination below
each of the farmer tanks. In response to these results,
further
excavation was conducted in Match 14, 1988. Soil and ground-
water samples were collected from the base of the excavation.
Results of lab analyses indicate that soil contamination exists
at the ground-water level, which is approximately 20 feet below
grade. A ground—water sample had levels of total xylene isomers
in excess of generally accepted levels.
