The structural assessments are to examine the structural strength
and stability of the tanks due to hydrostatic pressure and lateral
load in the case of an earthquake. The seismic loads applied to
the tanks are based on the requirements in Section 2338 of 1991
UBC. The allowable working stresses in tank walls are in accordance
with the " Manual of Steel Construction" , AISC. , and with the
Polyolefin Tank Data provided by the manufacturer.
The conclusion of this report is made based on:
1. Visual Inspection, 2/23/93
2 . Review of Rinse Tank Platform Modification Plans prepared
by Ehrlich-Rominger Architects, dated 11/12/92
3 . Polyolefin and Steel Tanks Data Sheets, Attachments Al
through A8
4 . Structural Calculations for Tank Certification of MQUAD
Waste Treatment, dated 3/16/93
5 . Modification Plans S1 through S6
6 . Final Inspection, 3/26/93
The findings and the recommended modifications of the tanks and
their supports in this report are based on available structural
information; structural analyses; and visual inspections, before
and after modifications, of the tanks and their supports without
any material testing.
We do not if the existing anchor bolts, reinforcing steel and
foundation, etc. have been constructed in accordance with the
construction documents. In addition, the information of polyolefin
tanks is limited due to the proprietary rights of the tank
supplier. The findings and the recommended modifications of the
tanks and their supports in this report are also based on our
engineering judgement. They are made for the present environment
of the facility. Therefore, they should be revised when the
surrounding environment in the facility changes.
2
