G„WENSBROCCWAY a
GLASS CONTAINERS
a unit of Owens-Illinois
June 24, 2011
Ray Von FlUe, Lead Sr. REHS
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Dept.
County of San Joaquin
600 E. Main St.
Stockton, CA 95202
Re: Checklist and Initial Verification Inspection Report for Permit by Rule,
Conditionally Exempt Notifiers dated 5/26/11
This letter is submitted in response to the inspection which occurred at Owens
Brockway Glass Container in Tracy, on May 26, 2011.
On the Note Sheet of your inspection report, the observation was made that
drum rinsing/crushing is not being performed at the facility per contact (myself.) Owens
was requested to notify your office by June 26, 2011 that the "unit" is closed.
We have reviewed historical on-site drum crushing activities and believe that the
facility never purchased or installed a drum rinsing/crushing unit. Instead, we believe
this activity was periodically performed on-site by a drum management company at the
current drum storage area. In addition, it is also believed that on occasion drum
crushing equipment may have been rented and used on-site at the current drum storage
area.
Therefore, Owens requests that the tiered permit for drum rinsing/crushing be
closed.
Thank you for your help and information you provided during our inspection
please let me know if you need any additional information.
Lisa Mendoza
Environmental Supervisor
209-836-8269
fwass
14700 W.Schulte Road Tracy,California 95376 (209)835-5701 Recycles
