i 3 0 CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND PROJECT STATUS
Between December 17 2001 and March 19, 2002, theg roundwater surface rose an average of
2 74 feet, and the groundwater flow direction and gradient remained relatively constant Over the
r past seven quarters, the groundwater flow direction has shifted between northwest and northeast,
over a range of approximately 45 degrees
Consistent with previous results, concentrations of TPH-as-gasoline and BTEX compounds are
restricted to MW-2 near the dispenser islands, and MTBE is concentrated in MW-2 and MW-4
downgradient of the USTs Over the past seven quarters, the concentrations of gasoline
hydrocarbons in groundwater have generally declined, possibly due to previous source removal
efforts The plume of MTBE in groundwater appears to extend to the north and east of the site
toward domestic water wells located on Raylow Avenue The plume appears to be mostly
delineated to the south (upgradient) by MW-1 and to the west (cross-gradient) by MW-3 The
vertical extent of impacted groundwater is not defined
L Based on these conclusions, Ramage Environmental published Work Plan, Additional Site
Investigation, dated September 26, 2001, and a work plan addendum dated January 21, 2002
On January 30, 2002, PHSIEHD approved the modified scope of work On April 29, 2002, the
cost to implement the approved work plan was pre-approved by the UST Cleanup Fund
On May 9, 2002, Ramage Environmental submitted an encroachment permit application to the city
of Manteca, to drill a cone penetration test (CPT) boring in the Raylow Avenue right-of-way east of
the site Currently, the permit application is pending approval The CPT drilling is scheduled for
June 26-28, 2002
i
7
